Melanie J Grubisha MD PhD

  • Associate Professor
Research Interests

Dendritic alterations in schizophrenia and dendritic regression pathways. Dr. Grubisha identified the OMGp/KAL9 signaling pathway as a novel mechanism serving to restrict dendritic growth. OMGp expression increases naturally across adolescence and Dr. Grubisha observed that a gain of function (GOF) in OMGp signaling (ie KAL9-PT) induces adolescent-onset dendritic regression in vivo. These observations provide the basis for her lab's overall work in understanding the role of OMGp in adolescent dendritic development and structural regulation As the principal investigator of an NIH-funded laboratory, Dr. Grubisha seek to integrate scientific inquiry with mentoring the next generation of scientists.
